The Cleveland Browns got themeselves a big dog in nose tackle Danny Shelton with the No. 12 pick. The Browns had all kinds of problems stopping the run in 2014 and decided to do something about it right away in the draft. And that was a very smart move with the likes of LeVeon Bell and Juston Forsett in the division.
Shelton is a 6’2″, 340-pound space eater that will clog holes in the middle of the defense as everyone knows. But what people don’t realize is that he has some wiggle and can rush the passer a little too. He would have been a top-10 pick if it weren’t for the 5.6 40 he ran but the Browns were smart to ignore that.
There is no nose tackle in the NFL that’s going to catch guys like Bell from behind anyway. The objective is to stop him before he gets going and Shelton’s skill-set is made just for that. Shelton is definitely pro ready with his size to not be moved and strength to simply throw blockers off of him.
It’s up to the offense now because the Browns defense just became formidable.
