The New England Patriots have selected Malcolm Brown at No. 32 overall in the 2015 NFL Draft. They could have went corner or nose tackle with all of loses the Patriots had this offseason on defense. But they chose to try to replace Vince Wilfork, who was figuratively and literally the heart and soul of the defense.
And they actually made a good pick in the process because in football, the line of scrimmage comes first. Plus they picked a guy that has some similarities to Wilfork as there is no one anything like Darrelle Revis in this year’s draft. Like Wilfork, Brown plays with good bend in his hips allowing him to be low off the snap and he’s athletic for a man his size.
He also uses an explosive punch to keep blockers off of him so he can make it to the ball carriers. The bottom line he can’t be moved off the line of scrimmage and he’s too talented to be blocked by one man. He’ll come in ready to contribute big-time right away so the Patriots repeat hopes depend on what they can do in the secondary.
