1. player. 42.
With their first-round pick, the San Francisco 49ers selected 3-4 defensive end Arik Armstead. Armstead has the ability to be a star at his position so this is a good pick to replace the loses they’ve had at the position. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is in Chicago now but Eric Mangini, also the 3-4 guy, is running the defense now.

In the second round, the 49ers picked strong safety Jaquiski Tartt to sure up the back end of the defense. Tartt is an in-the-box safety that will hit you if you go across the middle and more athletic than given credit for. We’ll see about his coverage skill set and if he’ll end up being another Donte Whitner.

In the third round, the 49ers pick Eli Harold, an edge-rusher that can go in and pair up with Aldon Smith. He’s going to make the defense better right away so don’t think the great 49ers defense is dead. Wait until you see what the 49ers can do with Smith and Harold coming off the edges.
. DL. Oregon. Arik Armstead
