The minute Jameis Winston was selected No. 1 overall for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he was presumed to be the starter. And as much as that may be the cause by openning day, right now, he has to do it the old fashioned way—earn it. Head coach Lovie Smith said to the press on NFL Network, “Jameis and everybody else have to earn their position.
“Jameis is getting his first-team reps. You guys are here on Thursday, and Wednesday he was with the first group then. Don’t look too much into that. We just want the guys we think can play to get reps, and we want them to work with a lot of different combinations. Jameis is right on schedule. We’re not disappointed or anything like that in him.”
On Thursday, Winston was with the No. 2 offense while Mike Glennon lined up with the ones. But no worries, the job is still remains Winston’s to lose there’s just an elusion being created here. That elusion is that Winston is coming from behind, just like he did regularly in the 2014 season, to win it.
Winston knows exactly what’s going one as far as him starting as he said, “I was never given anything in my life, so the way I was brought up, I have to earn everything, The main thing is to earn the respect of all these players out here.”
So there’s nothing to worry about here, he just has to earn his starting position (wink).
