Year One By the Numbers

Carr was only 3-13 as a starter with only one game winning drive, starting all 16 of his teams’ games. He completed 58 percent of his passes for 3,270 yards, 21 TDs and 12 INTs with a quarterback rating of 76.6. He set the all-time rookie record for touchdown passes in his first five games with eight.

Carr was also awesome in the red-zone, leading the Raiders to an NFL-best 72.4 touchdown percentage (21-of-29) in there. Of the 12 NFL rookies in history with at least 450 attempts, Carr threw the fewest interceptions. And he’s one of four rookies with at least 20 TDs and only 12 INTs putting him in the record books for rookie quarterbacks in TD/INT ratio.

Bridgewater had a 6-6 record as a starter and three of those wins came from game winning drives. His totals for 2014 were 64 percent completions for 2,919 yards, 14 TDs, 12 INTs and a 85.2 quarterback rating. Bridgewater’s solid rookie season landed him in the record books for 91 franchise rookie records.

Carr set some NFL rookie records and landed high on the all-time rookie quarterbacks list. Bridgewater had a better quarterback rating, the statistical barometer used to measure quarterbacks. But wins and losses are really how quarterbacks are measured and 6-6 trumps 3-13 so Bridgewater had the better year.
