When the staff of an NFL team tells you something during the offeason, it’s a pretty good idea to believe it. There are no reasons to lie or be coy about anything because the season is a ways away. Yet the media was suspicious of the Oakland Raiders for possibly hiding something on the minor injury to quarterback Derek Carr.
Then Monday, reports came out that he would participate in minicamp but that he wouldn’t be 100 percent until training camp. But no, you don’t have to wait until training camp to see if he’s going to be okay. NFL Media’s Steve Wyche was at Raiders minicamp Tuesday and reported that Carr was full-go, doing all individual and team drills with the first-team offense.
He threw every pass he was supposed to and according to Wyche, he was impressive and showed good velocity. He did not appear bothered in the least bit by the finger injury that kept him from a full throwing program this offseason. With Tuesday’s performance indicating Carr’s making finger isn’t a long-term concern, so there’s nothing else to report.
Now, we have to find something else to write about because it’s exactly the non-story the Raiders maintained it was. Carr admitted to being a little rusty on Tuesday but of the Injury, he told Raiders.com, “It was so minor and it got blown up so much, we were just like, ‘oh man. I’m 100 percent. If you could be more than 100, that’s where I’m at, just ready for camp.”
