In a very unexpected move in round 1 of the draft this year, the Indianapolis Colts picked Dorsett. They already have Andre Johnson and T.Y. Hilton and need to stop the run better to go further. But the Colts thought Dorsett was too much to pass up and so far, in minicamps and OTAs, they are impressed by the rookie out of Miami.
Of course, all you heard about was his 4.25 speed but the Colts like much more than that about him. Head coach Chuck Pagano said of him during a media session on NFL Network, “He looks really good. He’s really fast. He’s got really good hands. He’s really smart. He’s picked things up.”
That’s a really good thing for the rookie receiver because in offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton’s offense, you have to learn more than one receiver. Dorsett told the media, “I’ve been all over the place. Basically, playing receiver here, you can’t just learn one position. You’ve got to learn them all.”
As of now, Andre Johnson and T.Y. Hilton are set to be quarterback Andrew Luck’s top two receivers. So apparently, Dorsett is now battling with a host of very alented receivers for the third spot. According to Mike Chappel of WXIN, Former running back Edgerrin James, who counseled Dorsett at Miami, believes he will make an immediate impact.
He told Chappel, “I tell him once he gets in that real good offense and he gets to playing, man, he’s going to be unbelievable. He works hard. He does it the right way. He’s a good kid. He has a love for the game. You’re not going to have to worry about him. Trust me on that. And Andre is going to mentor him.”
Well, he’s off to a good start.
