Derek Carr dealt with his rookie struggles but still had himself an impressive rookie campaign. Some of his rookie struggles were typical while most of them were due to the receiver corps he had. But the Raiders now have Crabtree and Cooper to give him the fire-power he needs to succeed this year.
Last year, he averaged a little over five yards per attempt because he too often had to check the ball down. Having such weapons at his disposal now, Carr has opened training camp with more confidence. Reports out of camp have Carr displaying confidence in himself and accuracy going down the field to his new targets.
Left tackle Donald Penn told the San Francisco Gate, “He’s got a different swagger about him this year. He led us very well last year, and he keeps everybody loose, and that will only get better. He has a very good grasp of the new offense, and for it to be new and everybody else still learning it, that’s very impressive.”
