Oakland Raiders- Cornerback

With the first pick Co-editor Carl Cockerman recently posted an article where he looked at the struggles of the Oakland Raiders 2013 1st round pick D.J. Hayden. His inability to develop and stay health has created a major problem in the secondary.

Oakland has made some several strong moves to upgrade the defense but the secondary is keeping the unit from reaching its full potential. This is a make-or-break year for Hayden as the Raiders may be forced to move on if he doesn’t take some positive steps.

The in-house options at this point are limited with Keith McGill and Travis Carrie as the only players with solid development potential. McGill is the more intriguing of the two as he features excellent size as well as good ball skills.

However, even if McGill does develop into a starting-caliber player the Raiders need to address this position in the offseason.

The primer cornerback prospect in the 2016 draft is Florida’s Vernon Hargreaves III. He’s a fluid athlete who can mirror an offenses’ top weapon. Another name to watch closely is USC’s Kevon Seymour who could emerge as a top-end prospect this season.
