August 23, 2015; Santa Clara, CA, USA; San Francisco 49ers defensive end Arik Armstead (69) rushes Dallas Cowboys tackle John Wetzel (61) during the second quarter at Levi

The San Francisco 49ers lost Justin Smith among a host of others on their defensive front-seven. So they took 6’7″, 290-pound Arik Armstead at No. 17 overall to rebuild their defensive front-seven around. He’s actually just as talented as Williams, the Jets’ No. 6 overall, but not as advanced as he was a college basketball player at first.

However, Armstead is getting by right now with the same things Williams is getting by with. That power and athleticism of his was noticed right away in training camp and continued to be in the preseason. He has been very dispruptive, simply bulling his way to the quarterback and playing the run along the way.

Armstead stood out the most in dress rehearsal against the Dallas Cowboys and their best offensive line in the NFL. He played well against the run, had a few pressures and a pass batted down. Armstead looks like he’s going to be every bit as dominant Williams is right now so the 49ers defense should still be fine.
. DE. San Francisco 49ers. ARIK ARMSTEAD. A
