Winston’s Day

Since 1995, rookie quarterbacks were 3-26, with 24 touchdown passes, 37 interceptions and a .551 completion percentage vs Dick LeBeau coming in. Jeff Garcia, in 1999, was the only one to throw for 300 yards on the legendary defensive coordinator. After Winston on Sunday, add two touchdowns, two interceptions and another loss to that total.

LeBeau had Winston off-balance with an assortment of exotic blitz packages and coverages from the start. Speaking of the start, Winston’s first pass as an NFL quarterback was a pick-6 for the Titans. On the day, Winston was 16-33, 210 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions and a quarterback rating of 64.

He was also sacked four times and hit five times to go with the pressures the Titans had. With the blitzes, LeBeau forced Winston to make decisions a little faster than he was comfortable with. But has been known to make bad decisions since college, into more bad decisions. Particularly with Mike Evans out, the Buccaneers put too much on Winston in his first NFL game too.
