How much more of an immediate impact can you get?

Mariota put the Titans in the win column on opening day win with with four touchdown passes. He was put in position to do so by the Whisenhunts willingness to adjust his game-plan around Mariota’s strengths. And on the other side of the ball, LeBeau, as he always has been on rookies, was extremely hard on Winston.

Along with his natural tendency to make bad decisions, Winston was hurried and confused out there. Smith has nothing to confuse Mariota with as his defense is dependent on stars to make it work. But all he has is Gerald McCoy in the place of Warren Sapp with no Simeon Rice, Derrick Brooks, Tiki Barber or John Lynch.

So Mariota was more comfortable than Winston on opening day.
