Michigan State Spartans quarterback Connor Cook and his No. 2-ranked team survived a scare Saturday beating the Purdue Boilermakers 24-21. Conner was impressive in the first half of the game, having only two of his passes hit the ground. The kid is showing everything NFL teams want in a young signal-caller so far, getting his team out to a 21-o lead at halftime.

Operating in a pro style offense, Cook impressed with his pocket presence, quick release and accuracy. At 6’4″, 220 pounds, he has the size the NFL covets and some surprizing speed to pull away from defensive lineman. Then in the second half, as the weather got worse, his the arm strength to throw a ball that cuts through the wind showed.

The problem was that his receivers had problems holding on to the wet ball and the Boilermakers didn’t. So they were able to come back and make it interesting but Michigan State was able to hold on. Michigan State is a run-first team so Cook isn’t going to put up the big numbers but he could be the best prospect at his position.

He’s on the No. 2 ranked team in the nation so some solid performances in big games could get him there. I still have California Golden Bears quarterback Jared Goff as my No. 1 quarterback right now. But it is still within reach for Cook as both quarterbacks have big games ahead to really show who and what they are.
