At 6’4″, 220 pounds Michigan State quarterback has good size for an NFL prospect at his position. Cook doesn’t have a big arm put he has a good enough arm to make all the throws he needs to. Unlike Goff, Cook comes from a pro style offense so he’s familiar with the progressions NFL quarterbacks go through in the pocket.
With four minutes remaining Saturday night and Cook’s Spartans facing an upset with the score tied with Rutgers, he showed his poise under pressure. On a 3rd-and-9 late in the game, with a furious Rutgers rush Cook threw a dime downfield into good coverage for a 29-yard gain. It was at that point that the Spartans knew they would hold Rutgers off.
And Cook did this under the adverse circumstances of a starting offensive lineman and his primary running back being injured. So he was hit a lot and had constant pressure on him but it didn’t rattle him. Cook threw for 357 yards and two touchdowns, completing 23 of 38 attempts with his team needing every yard.
