At the beginning of the season, I didn’t see a whole lot of love for Corey Coleman on draft boards. Being only 5’10”, 190 pounds, he had to really show he was special for the scouting media to recognize him. I had my own reservations over the teams he was playing early on but his game against West Virginia showed me he’s for real.
In that game last Saturday, Coleman had 10 catches for 199 yards and three touchdowns. He’s No. 3 in the FBS in receiving yards at 877 yards and No 1 in receiving touchdowns with 16. And there’s only one draft board among the scouting media that have him going in the first round.
If the NFL personnel world sleeps on him like the scouting media is, they’re going to miss out. He is a certified, bona-fide, playmaker, who’s a skill set is very close in proximity to that of Percy Harvin. He isn’t asked to run every route on the route-tree in the spread offense now but he certainly can with his agility.
When he gets to the 2016 NFL scouting combine, I expect him to run a sub-4.4 40 so he is a deep threat too. And everyone is slippery when wet, he’s slippery even when he’s dry running after the catch. He’s a so dangerous with the ball in his hands, he’s a return-man and he sometimes runs the ball out of the backfield.
The blazing speed he uses to blow right by whoever is covering him is something to marvel.
Someone needs to take him in Round 1.
