Minnesota Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs was a No. 1 recruit coming out of high school. And instead of going to a college that had a top quarterback, he decided to stay home and go to Maryland. So he went on to do what he could do in college but didn’t put up the numbers he wanted to.

He has great speed and quickness but he’s only 6’0″, 190 pounds so he needed numbers to get picked early. Since that didn’t happen, he wasn’t picked until the fifth round and no one knew much about him. Charles Johnson was the Vikings’ No. 1 receiver last year and Mike Wallace was brought in via free agency to be that this year.

That left Diggs was buried on the depth chart and not expected to do much coming into this season. But now, he’s making himself known to the Vikings and the whole NFL is these days. On, Sunday, his route-running, hands and speed were on full display on the road in Detroit against the Lions.

Diggs was the leading receiver in the game with six catches for 108 yards with one going for a 36-yard touchdown. He’s been the Lions’ leading receiver for the last three games since coming on in Week 4 in a close loss to the Denver Broncos. Diggs now has 19 catches for 324 yards and a touchdown to show for the three games he’s played in.

Barring injury, he’s only gong to get better so look for more from the youngster. Combined with Peterson and quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, Diggs will help this offense explode. And with the defense coming on, the Vikings could mess around and seriously threaten the limping Green Bay Packers.
