Everyone always has their version of what happened when they see drama unfold out in public. And of course, in the beginning, the stories sound much worse than they do when all is said and done. That looks like the case for Cleveland Browns 2014 1st-round pick Johnny Manziel, who was recently seen in an argument with his girlfriend.

Some said he had her by the neck while others said he had her face pushed into a window. His version is that he was holding her arm to keep her from jumping out of the car, which seems most logical since marks were found on her arm. Manziel did take a drink that day but he was under the legal limit while she was intoxicated.

Still, many believed he would be disciplined and wondered why it didn’t happen already. But after the NFL did their investigation, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that Manziel is not expected to be disciplined at all. So after passing that test, Manziel may be getting ready for the next one as they Browns are at home this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

Starting quarterback Josh McCown is nursing the shoulder he injured in Sunday’s loss to the St. Louis Rams. So Manziel has been taking first-team reps during the week in McCown’s place. McCown was limited on Thursday so there is a chance he heals enough to start on Sunday.

But it would be interesting to see what Manziel could do against that defense the Cardinals have. The Browns should start Manziel either way to see what he has while McCown heals that shoulder of his. The last time Manziel started, he threw for 172 yards and a two TDs in a win over the Tennessee Titans.

In his last action, he was 4-5 when he went in for the injured McCown.

Who knows if he stands a chance to play of if this is gamesmanship?

But at least it doesn’t look like he actually committed the crime.
