Oakland Raiders quarterback and 2014 2nd-round pick Derek Carr is the absolute steal of the 2014 NFL Draft. All 32 teams passed on him in the first round and the Raiders didn’t let him get past them again in the second. In year two, he has had the biggest jump of all the quarterbacks drafted in 2014.

Now, he’s universally recognized as the best quarterback age 25 and under. And Sunday at home against the New Jets and their No. 4-ranked pass defense, he looked like an elite quarterback. Carr sliced and diced the Jets defense, going 23-36 for 333 yards and four touchdowns.

He showed pin-point accuracy on everything short to deep, poise, pocket presence and excellent command of the offense. One big improvement that he showed from last year is his ability to function against the blitz. The best thing is he knows all of this and it has given him the ultimate confidence out there.

Through seven games this year, Carr has completed 67 percent of his passes for 1,793 yards, 15 TDs and only three INTs. And of those three INTs, two of them were the fault of the receiver either dropping the ball or not looking for it. He’s on pace to throw for over 4,000 yards, over 30 TDs and still be in single digits in INTs.

And at 4-3, he’s on pace to be the first Raiders quarterback to lead them to a winning record since 2002. That’s what a franchise quarterback does and most of the time, those guys are picked in the top 10. So the fact the Carr was picked in the second round makes him the absolute steal of the 2014 NFL Draft.
