Memphis Tigers quarterback Paxton Lynch was lighting it up to start the 2016 season. But he was dismissed by most of the NFL scouting media as an American Athletic Conference quarterback. But a win over highly-ranked-at-the-time Mississippi of the SEC has put everyone on notice.
In the game, Lynch was 39-53 for 384 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. For the season, Lynch has completed 70 percent of his passes for 2,709 yards, 18 touchdowns and one interception. His numbers are a bit inflated by that Spread Offense he runs but he has every trial you want from an NFL quarterback.
At 6’7″, 245 pounds, he is a huge man and has a huge arm to make any throw you need on the field. He throws a lot of bubble-screens out of that Spread Offense but he’s also very accurate down the field. And to go with all that, he’s athletic enough to run the option and sometimes uses it to extend passing plays.
And all of his traits were on display Saturday against the Tulane Green Wave. On the day, Lynch completed 26 of his 42 passes for 343 yards, a touchdown and no interception. Head coaches, G.M.s, scouts, and personnel people all across the NFL world looking for a quarterback in 2016 are now on notice.
