The running back position is making a serious comeback with Leonard Fournette and Nick Chubb sure to be top-10 picks in 2017. But they’re not the only ones that will be battling for that spot at the very top of the draft. Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer is starting to show that he will be a top prospect in 2017.
He has every trait you can possibly want in a quarterback and plays in Brian Kelly’s pro style system mixed with some Spread offense. At 6’4″, 230 pounds, he has the prototypical size the NFL is looking for in a pocket-passer. With that size, he has exceptional arm talent as he has a huge arm and the accuracy to fit a ball in anywhere.
What may surprise you is his athleticism as he has a 79-yard touchdown run to his credit this season. But Saturday he had himself a day throwing the ball going 19-26 for 242 yards and five TDs. Two of those touchdown passes were beautifully thrown deep balls to deep threat Will fuller.
Kizer took over in Week 2, throwing a 40-yard touchdown pass to with 12 seconds left to beat Virginia after Malik Zaire went down with a fractured ankle. And you could see just from that throw that he has the potential to be something special. He has since grown exponentially and now, the looks like the best quarterback prospect for the 2017 draft class.
If the team the drafts first that year hasn’t already drafted their quarterback of the future, Kizer is sure to go No. 1 overall.
