Just as Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck was starting to roll with the offense, he suffers a big set-back. The Indianapolis Colts announced Tuesday that Luck will miss 2-6 weeks with a lacerated kidney and a partial tear of an abdominal muscle. The good news is he’s expected to make a full recovery and will not have to undergo surgery.
But the timing couldn’t be worse as Luck is coming off his best performance of the season against the top-ranked Broncos defense. It is believed that the injury occurred on the first play of the fourth quarter on a hard hit by Broncos linebacker Danny Travathan to Luck’s midsection.
Luck could be seen with a look of pain on his face at times later in the quarter from that point. But if you’re a Colts fan, it’s not time to give up on the season because they do play in a weak division. Plus they have backup Matt Hasselbeck, who won to games for them, completing 63 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the two games.
Those wins were over the Houston Texans and the Jacksonville Jaguars, two of the three division rivals. So as the Colts sit in first place in the AFC South at 4-5, Hasselbeck has a good chance to keep them there until Luck is healthy again. The Colts are in the middle of their bye week too so that give Hasselbeck even more time to prepare.
In Week 11 and 12 the Colts face the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, two teams that struggle to rush the passer or stop opposing offenses. Hasselbeck is fully capable of coming down that stretch of 2-5 games with the Colts still in first place.
Relax Colts fans.
They’re going to be fine.
