It looks like Cleveland Browns 2014 1st-round pick Johnny Manziel will get another chance, after all. It sounds like the last thing head coach Mike Pettine wants to do but he has no choice right now. But the rib area is the slowest part of the body to heal because it doesn’t get as much blood supply.

Manziel made his second start of the season last Thursday against the Cincinnati Bengals and he was so-so. He went 15-of-33 for 168 yards and a touchdown, which is okay considering who he played. Let’s not act McCown would have thrown for 400 yards and four touchdowns, putting up 42 points.

Manziel actually looked good in spots with his ability to make things happen out of the pocket. But he Bengals adjusted, designing the defense to keep Manziel trapped in the pocket. The Browns are already 2-7 so it’s time for Pettine to stop acting like McCown can save his job.

He seems to believe that can happen by way of the Browns can finishing the season 9-7. But that is very unlikely so they need to let their 1st-round pick play to give themselves a chance to evaluate him. If Manziel finishes strong, and the Browns went 8-8 or even 7-9 that could actually save Pettine’s jobe.

That could also save the job of G.M. Ray Farmer, who picked Manziel, depending on who you believe. Either way, the Browns need to prepare for the draft yesterday and that won’t happen if Manziel doesn’t play. He just might have it in him to do well but just never got a chance to get into a rhythm.

We’ll know more on Sunday!
