San Francisco 49ers. ARIK ARMSTEAD. C+.
The San Francisco 49ers lost Justin Smith among a host of others on their defensive front-seven. So they took 6’7″, 290-pound Arik Armstead at No. 17 overall to rebuild their defensive front-7. The former college basketball player is very talented but the 49ers wanted to bring him along slowly because he was so raw coming in.

So he didn’t see the field very often to start the season but sees it a lot more these days. He’s doing something with his opportunities looking better than Glenn Dorsey and Quinton Dial, who start ahead of him as 3-4 ends. He got after the quarterback hard when the 49ers first put him on the field against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3.

Coming out of the bye-week at 3-6 in Week 11, the 49ers need to go ahead and start Armstead. They’re already not doing anything his year and the guys starting in front of him are certainly no better. The pick itself gets high marks but the 49ers’ plans to develop and bring him along aren’t very good.
. DE
