2016 NFL Mock Draft: Week 11 Update
By Jon Dove
9. New Orleans Saints- A’Shawn Robinson, DT, Alabama
Improving the overall play of the defense should be the priority of the New Orleans Saints. They took a step in the right direction when they fired Rob Ryan, but they also need to improve the talent level.
A good start would be to add a run-stuffing defensive lineman like Alabama’s A’Shawn Robinson. This is a powerful defender who holds at the point of attack and occupies blockers. Adding Robinson would allow the linebackers, such as promising rookie Stephone Anthony, freely flow to the football.
The secondary is also a concern in New Orleans, but they have money tied up at the position and would have to move on from the like of Brandon Browner and Keenan Lewis.
Several cornerback prospects are working their way up draft boards including USC’s Kevon Seymour and LSU’s Tre’Davious White. Both could be options for the Saints if they decide to target secondary help. Some will reference Florida State’s Jalen Ramsey as another option.
However, I have Ramsey rated as a borderline 1st round prospect. He’s an elite athlete with a ton of upside but lacks polish. Ramsey isn’t ready to step in and make a smooth transition. He needs time to perfect his craft and learn the position.
