18. Oakland Raiders- Kevon Seymour, CB, USC
The Oakland Raiders have built a very potent offense, but now need to focus on improving the defense. This group gives up too many big plays while also struggling to shut down the running game. However, finding help in the secondary should be the top priority.
USC’s Kevon Seymour is a long and physical defensive back. He’s not afraid of contact and can match up bigger targets. Seymour separates himself a little because he’s a fluid mover for someone with this length.
This allows him to stick with shiftier receivers who look to create separation with their route-running. Oakland needs a talent like Seymour at cornerback because they face the likes of Demaryius Thomas, Keenan Allen and Jeremy Maclin twice a year.
An explosive linebacker like UCLA’s Myles Jack would look good in this defense. I have him coming off the board at No. 10 in this mock draft, but it’s possible he’s around this late in the 1st round. Jack’s ACL injury has created a real fluid situation with his draft stock.
An athletic linebacker like Jack would help Oakland improve both its run and pass defense. Jack is an elite cover linebacker capable to sticking with running backs, tight ends and some wide receivers.
