From the beginning of the season until he went out with a foot injury, the Denver Broncos have been trying to figure out what to do with quarterback Peyton Manning. The old vet’s body is falling apart so there are limitations to what he can do. They have a defense and running game now so he could be more of a game-manager.

But Manning has had problems with that because of the system head coach Gary Kubiak wants to do it out of. Kubiak’s system has a lot of bootlegs and waggles off of the running game and Manning isn’t mobile enough for it. Manning had gotten to the point that he lined up in the pistol to reduce the amount of steps he takes in drop-backs or handoffs.

Then he got to where he couldn’t even do that and threw two TDs to 6 INTs in back-to-back losses. The aforementioned foot injury was the culprit and youngster Brock Osweiler had to start the last two games. After an impressive win against the Chicago Bears, he stepped his game up to out-Brady Tom Brady and his New England Patriots.

He got of to a slow start and went into the fourth quarter down 21-7 to Brady’s Patriots. He then outscored them 17-3 and led the Broncos to a game-winning drive capped off by a 48-yard TD run by C.J. Anderson. The key to this whole thing is Osweiler executed the system the way Kubiak wanted, managing the game.

Beating Brady and head coach Bill Belichick in comeback fashion in his third career start is huge. He showed tremendous poise to earn the trust of Kubiak and general manager John Elway. As a matter of fact, he showed more poise in his battle with Brady than Manning did in most of his.

So in this game, Osweiler beat Brady in the game and Manning out of the starting quarterback spot.

They can’t possibly justify starting Manning again after Sunday night.
