2016 NFL Draft Scouting Report for Cincinnati’s Parker Ehinger
Parker Ehinger is an under the radar offensive tackle prospect who deserves more attention. The fact he plays for Cincinnati and didn’t face top-level competition might be a factor in his lack of hype. However, he has the skill set to be a very effective NFL player.
He has a thick and long frame that allows him to use his size to wall off defenders. Ehinger plays with a nasty streak where he works to the whistle and wants to move defenders off the ball. The type of offense Cincinnati runs doesn’t ask him to generate a push often, but he is more than capable of the task.
This clip shows Ehinger quickly getting out of his stance and washing the entire defensive line down:
Ehinger features good upper body strength and heavy hands which helps him Velcro to the defender. This is important because it helps him control the defensive player in the run game and mirror in pass protection.
As a pass protector, Ehinger is a technically sound and balanced player. He quickly gets out of his stance and into a kick slide. His wide base and hand usage help him both anchor after contact and keep the defender off his frame.
This clip shows Ehinger playing with his head on a swivel and handling the stunt by the defensive lineman:
Ehinger is a good athlete with the foot quickness and change of direction ability to protect the edge. This is a well-rounded player who is capable of making an immediate impact at the next level. I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts to get some 2nd or late-1st round attention.
