19. Leonard Floyd, Edge, Georgia
Georgia’s Leonard Floyd has been on draft radars for a while and is finally ready to make the jump. However, where he’ll fit at the next level might have changed over the years. Floyd is far more versatile than people give him credit.
He still has upside as an edge rusher where his speed, length and fluidity come into play. Floyd has shown throughout his college career the ability to turn the corner and close on the quarterback. He’s still a work in progress in this area, but the potential is present.
However, he has developed as an all-around player and some who can also support the run or drop in coverage. Floyd strikes me as someone that could play a traditional linebacker role as easily as an edge rusher.
This is because Floyd is a balanced player who can quickly change direction. Over the past year, Georgia asked him to drop in coverage more often where he looked like a natural. Floyd also improved as a run defender where he showed the ability to take on blocks and read his keys.
Versatility is key in the NFL and there will be plenty of defensive coaches championing Floyd in the draft room.
