20. Reggie Ragland, LB, Alabama

Alabama’s Reggie Ragland is another in a long line of talented linebackers produced by Nick Saban. Some of these linebackers have been more successful than others, but each of them came into the league prepared. Ragland is no different and should be able to make a quick impact in the NFL.

Ragland is a physical defender who attacks the line of scrimmage with authority. He does a great job using his hands to take on blocks and quickly disengage. His short-area bust allows him to close on the ball carrier.

This is a smart player who can identify and close running lanes. Ragland knows how to effectively use his defensive line to keep clean as he attacks the football.

The one area of Ragland’s game that needs work is his pass coverage. He needs to show he’s fast enough to handle the elite athletes at the next level. Ragland has shown flashes of his coverage ability but is a little inconsistent with his focus.

A team like the Miami Dolphins could use a thumper in the middle of their defense. Ragland would provide a physical presence in a linebacking corps that is more finesse. Miami has talent on the defensive line but needs to improve the next level to fix their run defense.
