24. Carl Lawson, Edge, Auburn
Auburn’s Carl Lawson is an inexperienced but talented pass-rushing prospect. He lacks experience because of a rash of injuries that kept him off the field. However, when he is on the field he flashes the ability to get after the quarterback.
Lawson features an explosive first step which allows him to quickly work into the backfield. He has a solid build and long arms which helps him work some power rush moves. Offensive linemen have a hard time getting into his frame because of his violent and powerful hands.
This is a well-rounded prospect who is committed to supporting the run. Lawson does a great job gaining inside hands, disengaging and making plays away from his frame. He’s a tenacious defender who plays with an edge.
Lawson would fit in nicely with the Indianapolis Colts or Arizona Cardinals. Both teams have a need for an edge rusher with some physicality.
The Colts have been scrambling to land an edge rusher since the lack of development by former 1st-round pick Bjoern Werner. Lawson is a vast difference from Werner in that he’s a better athlete and comes with more upside.
Arizona’s defense finds its success thanks to the secondary, but the unit as a whole would benefit from a better pass rush.
