Bill Parcells is a genius for coming up with, “You are what your record says you are.” But in the case of the San Diego Chargers, it doesn’t necessarily apply. As bad as their record is, the Chargers are one player away from worst to first in the AFC West.

They already have quarterback Philip Rivers to put points on the board. He’s second to only Tom Brady in the NFL in passing yards so far this year. Then on the defensive side of the ball, they already have one of the best secondaries in the NFL.

Perhaps next year, the offensive line will stay healthy enough to get 2015 1st-round pick Melvin Gordon going. Then all they’ll need is to stop the run and rush the passer better. And Deforest Buckner would be a major help in both areas right away.

Buckner is comparable to Leonard Williams of the 2016 NFL Draft. He can be that dominant guy the Chargers have on their defensive front-7. They haven’t had that since Sean Merriman was there and that was the last time the Chargers had a great team.
. DE. Oregon. DeForest Buckner. 6. player. 13
