2016 NFL Mock Draft: AFC West

1 of 2

Instead of a traditional 2016 NFL mock draft, let’s look at the top three picks for each club as if the author was the GM for each team.  Today: the AFC West. One last note before we begin: players can be picked more than once but only outside of the division. So, look at this as a mock draft in and of each division.

Denver Broncos
1. Shawn Oakman, DL Baylor
2. Paul Perkins, RB UCLA
3. Deon Bush, S Miami(Fl)

Denver won’t know who the QB will be until the winter. It looks most likely than Peyton will be released and Osweiler will be the starter moving forward. Assuming this is the case, as GM I can move ahead with the build.

I’m filling needs here. Oakman is a need with 2 starting defensive linemen hitting free agency. Perkins is a need with my RB situation in Denver. Bush is a need since Darian Stewart is my starting free safety.

More than anything, I’m looking for guys who create a matchup issue for teams, regardless of their other flaws.

Kansas City Chiefs
1. Josh Doctson, WR TCU
2. Kyle Murphy, OL Stanford
3. Christian Hackenberg, QB Penn State

The Chiefs are an interesting spot: they really don’t *need* anything right now except a healthier knee for Jamaal Charles and someone to eventually replace Alex Smith.

Hackenberg has the arm talent but not the head. Reid knows how to develop guys so he’ll sit. Doctson has the intangibles to go along with speed/quickness, so he becomes Maclin’s running mate.

Murphy is going to make Fisher flip back to the left. He’s a powerful right tackle who you know has a brain in his head.
