Oakland Raiders
1. Myles Jack, LB UCLA
2. KeiVarae Russell, CB Notre Dame
3. Kevin Byard, S Middle Tenn State
Oakland needs to fix that defense. They can’t even blame it on the loss of Aldon Smith, who wasn’t contributing much to them, especially against the run.
If they can’t get Jaylon Smith, Jack is a project who can allow Mack to roam more. And everyone knows how much the Raiders still love speed over talent.
Russell and Byard are lower potential-more pro ready prospects for a secondary which needs reinforcement.
San Diego Chargers
1. Laremy Tunsil, OL Ole Miss.
2. Jonathan Allen, DL Alabama
3. Joshua Perry, OLB Ohio State
The Chargers are a team in need of help on both lines. DJ Fluker is now playing inside and King Dunlap can’t repeat his previous form at left tackle. Tunsil allows them to have a real blindside protector for Rivers.
Allen isn’t nearly as good a prospect as Joey Bosa, but for what they want to run, Allen could contribute early as a 5 tech. Just don’t expect him to be a great player, like so many Alabama defenders who have busted out.
Perry gets overlooked in the Buckeye defense, but he’s an inside/out guy who could thrive in a 3-4 where he can be plugged in and cover/play the run.
