Needing a receiver, the Chiefs made the best move they could have made during the 2015 offseason. They backed the Brinks truck up to Maclin’s house and gave him all the money he wanted to go to Kansas City. And in Week 3, the Chiefs broke their streak of 21 games without a touchdown pass to a receiver.

Of course, it was none other than Maclin that caught the touchdown to end the streak of futility. Quarterback Alex Smith is an ultra conservative quarterback that will do anything to not turn the ball over. So he needed a receiver he could trust to get open and Maclin has given him that this year.

After a so-so start, from Week 3, to Week 5, Maclin averaged 125 yards per game receiving. After that, he was quiet for a few games before he erupted for a huge game in Week 12. Maclin caught nine passes for 160 yards and a touchdown in a huge win for the Chiefs against the Buffalo Bills.

For the season, Maclin has 57 catches for 772 yards and three touchdowns so far. If he stays healthy for the rest of the year, he will likely give the Chiefs their first 1,000-yard receiver since Dwayne Bowe in 2011. Because of Maclin, Smith’s 7.6 yards per attempt will be a career best over a full season if it holds up over the last few games.
