2016 NFL Mock Draft: NFC East

2 of 2

Philadelphia Eagles

1. Connor Cook, QB Michigan State.
3(from Detroit). Greg Pyke, OL UGA.
3. Briean Boddy-Calhoun, DB Minnesota.

Much like the Giants, this is about fixing the problems that have been ignored for too long. And this draft is assuming that Chip Kelly leaves for Tennessee and a more traditional coach is hired.

Cook, Pyke and Boddy-Calhoun all could start for the Eagles week 1. Thats as big an indictment of Kelly’s tenure as anything. This draft is about stability: Cook is unexciting but should be a functional starter who doesn’t make a lot of mistakes.

Pyke and Boddy-Calhoun are lower risk prospects and can be trusted not to embarrass themselves. The Eagles have some good pieces but they need to focus on repairing the basics: blocking for the passer, not giving up pass play after pass play.

Washington Redskins
1. Jaylon Smith, LB Notre Dame.
2. Kevin Hogan, QB Stanford
3. Alex Collins, RB Arkansas

Scot McCloughan is in a bit of a bind: he has to replace a lot of poor talent on a team that’s somehow in first place in their division. And this could mean pressure from Dan Snyder not to rock the boat.

So, my taking over for him for this draft relieves him of this pressure. It’s time to make changes to the bones and sinews of the team. Smith is a defender you can build the entire defense around. No matter which front that they play, Smith should find a way t.o thrive.

Hogan and Collins are about bringing stability to their offense. Cousins has been great in 2 games(Saints and Bucs where he has nearly half of his TDs on the season) and ranges from average to awful in the rest of the games. Hogan probably should sit a year, but Cousins might decide that the grass/cash is greener elsewhere.

Collins is an unexciting, productive RB who does the little things well. Matt Jones has skill and talent, but fumbles it way too much and Morris is a system back who’s already declining.
