The New York Giants announced Friday that they have released the defensive end Damontre Moore. It happened shortly after he got into a fight with teammate Cullen Jenkins before practice. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Moore was upset about not getting free headphones like other players on the team.

Also according to Rapoport,  it was one of several displays of immaturity by Moore and the team decided enough was enough. The 23-year-old has started zero games in his career and totaled just 8.5 sacks in less than three seasons with the Giants. A 3-4 outside linebacker Texas A&M, 4-3 defensive end may not be the position

Should the Oakland Raiders be interested?

Whether if they run their 4-3 elephant or the 3-4, the Raiders need another hybrid-DE/OLB type. So far, Mario Edwards Jr. and Benson Mayowa have been taking turns there without making much noise. Edwards is at his best rushing the passer inside as a hybrid DE/DT.

And Mayowa just hasn’t done much with the opportunities he’s had so far this year. Meanwhile, Moore is a very poor man’s Aldon Smith, which is as good as you can get until Smith himself comes back late next year. Again, this isn’t to say the Raiders would be getting a star, just someone that could hold the fort down until Smith gets back.

And most importantly, it allows Edwards to move back inside where he is most disruptive. Obviously, the Raiders need to do some digging on his character to see what’s behind the drama he had in New York. But it’s at least worth looking into as players often have drama in one spot and smooth sailing in another.
