Bottom line
Mack made that big jump from year one to year two young players make but it wasn’t that big of a jump. Four sacks in a season to 14 with three games left would say he’s over three times better. He was already considered one of the most dominant defensive players in the NFL last year at that.
The biggest change in Mack just like it is with Carr is what he has around him on that defense. Receiver Amari Cooper was drafted in the first round to complement Carr and you see what that offense is doing. Edwards was drafted in the second round to complement Mack and you see the improvement on defense.
You can especially see what it has done for Mack, who is now filling up the stat-sheet to show his dominance. He has gone from a dominant player to the most dominant defensive player in the NFL. Mack did improve but if he had more around him last year, he would have had double-digit sacks then.
Now, he has a team that puts him in position to dominate and possibly quadruple last year’s sack total.
