2016 NFL Mock Draft: Holiday Update
By Jon Dove
17. Oakland Raiders (6-7)- Tre’Davious White, CB, LSU
The Oakland Raiders have a bright future thanks to the addition of young talent via the draft. They have standouts like Khalil Mack, Derek Carr and Amari Cooper. These three are franchise building blocks, but more talent is needed for Oakland to take the next step.
Mack’s ability to create pressure on the quarterback has helped mask issues in the secondary. The Raiders need to upgrade the overall talent at the cornerback position. This group is a little behind the rest of the roster mainly because former 1st-round pick DJ Hayden has failed to meet expectations.
LSU’s Tre’Davious White is a big and physical cornerback who is still developing. Because he played in the SEC, he has experience matching up against elite talent. White isn’t afraid to battle bigger receivers or come up to support the run.
He’ll have his share of bumps early in his career, but this is a prospect who will only improve with more experience.
Oakland could also look to improve their ground attack. Latavius Murray has done a solid job this year but it’s possible for this team to find an upgrade. This would be an interesting landing spot for Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott who would provide some stability at the position.
