'61. player. 49.
In the 1961, the Green Bay Packers selected Herb Adderley from Michigan State No. 12 overall. Adderley was drafted as a running back but the Packers already had Hall of Famers Paul Hornung and Jim Taylor. Adderley was too good of an athlete to sit on the bench so when there was an injury at corner, he filled in.

And he was so good, he was permanently moved to the cornerback position the next year. From there, he helped the Packers win five World Championships with two of them being Super Bowls. Adderley was a major factor in the Packers’ Super Bowl II victory over the Raiders.

He put the game away with 60-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. From 1970-72, Adderley joined the Cowboys and became a vital piece in Dallas’ “Doomsday Defense.” He helped the Cowboys get to two Super Bowls, winning Super Bowl VI the year after losing Super Bowl V.

In his 12 years, Adderley was selected to the All-Pro team four times and made six Pro Bowls. He recorded 48 interceptions, which he returned for 1,046 yards, seven of them for touchdowns. His indvidual success along with the success he helped his teams have, it’s a no-brainer that he’s in the Hall of Fame.
. CB. Michigan State. Herb Adderley
