LT. Florida State. Walter Jones. '97. player. 36.
In 1997, the Seattle Seahawks selected left tackle Walter Jones from Florida State at No. 6 overall. He came in and started every game in which he played, beginning with his rookie season. The Seahawks knew they had the franchise left tackle to protect a franchise quarterback’s blind side with.

But it took a little while to get that franchise quarterback as 1993 1st-round pick Rick Mirer didn’t work out. In 2001, the Seahawks brought Matt Hasselbeck in to be the guy Jones would protect. And Hasselbeck didn’t worry about his blind side playing with Jones as he didn’t allow a lot of pressure.

With that quarterback-left tackle combination the Seahawks got to the Super Bowl in 2005. It was one of the most controversial Super Bowls in the history of the game as many thought the Seahawks should have won that close game. But Jones, who head coach Mike Holmgren called the best offensive player he had ever coached, did his part.

In 5,500 pass attempts Jones was in the game on, he only gave up a total of 23 sacks. That’s 12 years in the NFL, all with the Seahawks for Jones and he made All-Pro four times and eight Pro Bowls. And at the conclusion of it all, he got his number (71) retired and his bust in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
