'90. player. 13.
In 1990, the San Diego Chargers selected linebacker Junior Seau from USC at No. 5 overall. And they got themselves a linebacker that belongs on the Mount Rushmore of linebackers with Ray Lewis, Lawrence Taylor and Dick Butkus. At 6’3″, 250 pounds, Seau was a freak athlete that went sideline to sideline to make plays.

He also used speed and agility in coverage and when the Chargers let him, he brought heat of the edge. Remember, he was looked at as the next Taylor coming out of USC as he was a 3-4 OLB. But when he went to the Chargers, he started at inside linebacker right away and did it like that was his position all along.

To go with his athleticism and bulldozing power, he has instincts that always lead him to the ball. His ability to weave his way through the traffic that was over 300 pounds a peice was uncanny. Seau used all of the above to give a franchise that was always known for offense a defensive identity for the first time.

And in the process, Seau helped his Chargers get to a Super Bowl that they lost to the 49ers in 1994. In his amazing 20 years in the NFL, Seau was an All-Pro six times and went to 12 Pro Bowls. If only he was still with us to put that gold jacket on while getting inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year.
. LB. USC. Junior Seau
