'83. player. 35. <p>For those that don’t know, back in 1983, the Tennessee Titans were the Houston Oilers. And in that year, the Oilers drafted offensive lineman Bruce Matthews, from USC, No. 9 overall. His career was long enough to block for the legendary Earl Campbell in Houston and Eddie George in Tennessee.</p>
<p>Matthews started out a left tackle but would eventually play every position on the offensive line. He would excell at all of them but he went to the Pro Bowl and was All-Pro as a guard and center. Speaking of Pro Bowls, he was selected to fourteen of them, tying a league record held by Merlin Olsen.</p>
<p>Matthews was also named First-team All-Pro nine times and to the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 1990s. Matthews spent his entire 19-year career with the Oilers/Titans franchise and was extremely durable. Matthews only misssed 10 games in his 19 years, having played more then any other player until Brett Favre came along.</p>
<p>In 1999, Matthews helped the Titans make it to Super Bowl XXXIV, losing to the St. Louis Rams. And for all his efforts, Matthews was selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007. He joined Dan Marino, Eric Dickerson, John Elway, and Jim Kelly with Darrell Green and Richard Dent going in later from the majestic Class of 1983.</p>. OL. USC. Bruce Matthews
