Top cornerback prospect Jalen Ramsey is more that ready to play in the NFL right now. So it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that he officially declared his intent to enter the 2016 NFL Draft. Ramsey is the most versatile defensive back in this year’s draft and probably in years.

At Florida State, he has lined up at cornerback, safety and nickelback, playing well at each position. At corner, what he projects as, he has good size at 6’1″, 202 pounds and is as athletic as they come. He was a standout on the FSU track and field team, winning two ACC titles as a long jumper and one as a relay team sprinter.

His size and length are what NFL clubs are looking for in cornerbacks as it helps in bump-and-run coverage. It also helps against the run as he is a sure tackler when he comes up in run support. In 2013, he was the first true freshman to start at cornerback for the Seminoles since Deion Sanders to show his maturity.

That was the start to a highly decorated college career in which he was a 2-time All-American. NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks decribed him last week as a Day 1 starter at cornerback in the NFL. And because of his versatility, Brooks compared him to recently retired Oakland Raiders defensive back Charles Woodson.

Ramsey said on his school’s website of his decision, “Today, after having in depth discussions with my parents, my coaches and others whom I hold dear to my heart, I am announcing my decision to pursue my dream, forgo my senior year of football at Florida State and declare for the 2016 NFL Draft.”

I don’t see where Ramsey gets past the Jacksonville Jaguars at No. 5 overall.
