Albeit against the Houston Texans with Brian Hoyer at quarterback, the Kansas City Chiefs look good. At the very least, they did what a good defense is supposed to do to a quarterback like Hoyer. The Chiefs defense shut him out, not even allowing the Texans to attempt a field in the game.

I have to say that way the Chiefs did it with their relentless pass rush and coverage was impressive. They had numerous pressures on Hoyer, getting three sacks, forcing a fumble and four INTs in the game. On the day, Hoyer was only 15-34 for 136 yards, to go with those INTs and no TDs.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs offense took advantage of the turnovers and scored 30 points in the game. Quarterback Alex Smith was very efficient on the day, going 17-22 for 190 yards and one TD. Tight end Travis Kelce is did his Tony Gonzales impression with eight catches for 128 yards on the day.

The Chiefs started it all off on special teams with a 106-yard kick return from Knile Davis. Running back Spencer Ware had 67 yards and a TD on 16 carries to steady the offense when needed. So while it appears the Chiefs are clicking on all cylinders, there are just a couple of concerns for with the Chiefs going forward.

One is their run defense and their biggest concern receiver Jeremy Maclin going down with an injury. The Chiefs gave up 99 yards on 17 carries to Alfred Blue, a little known running. That can be fixed but the Chiefs were fortunate enough to get some really good news Sunday about Maclin.

The Chiefs believed it was a torn ACL at first but an MRI revealed Maclin did not incur knee damage. Instead, it’s a high ankle sprain, his status is day to day and there is a chance he plays on Saturday against the New England Patriots. The Chiefs have a much better chance with Maclin to pull off a huge upset so the Chiefs got a break there.
