Hue Jackson is the man for the Cleveland Browns
The city of Cleveland has just become Hue Jack City when it comes to the sport of football. Former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson has been named the Browns’ head coach. This is a good hire for the Browns organization as they not only get a good coach but someone familiar with the AFC North.
Jackson’s time as the offensive coordinator was his second stint with the Bengals. He was also the quarterbacks coach for the Baltimore Ravens from 2008-09, handling quarterback Joe Flacco very well in his first two years in the NFL. That would get him a look as an offensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders in 2010.
After he took the Raiders offense from the bottom of the NFL to the top 10, he was promoted to head coach in 2011. In his one year as a head coach, Jackson went 8-8 despite all the injuries the Raiders had that year. He had quarterback Jason Campbell playing well and running back Darren McFadden looking like an MVP candidate before they were both injured.
Legendary Raiders owner Al Davis died in 2011, leaving new owner Mark Davis to hire a GM. Reggie McKenzie was that hire and his first order of business was to fire Jackson after just one year. Jackson would then go back to the Bengals and eventually become the offensive coordinator.
His work with Andy Dalton and then A..J. McCarron made him the NFL’s hottest offensive coordinator. That would also make him the NFL’s hottest head coaching candidate with numerous teams interested including the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers. The interesting part of this is the California native was the favorite to land the 49ers job.
Why would he turn down the Bay Area for Cleveland?
Does anyone want to be associated with the 49ers anymore?
Well, the Browns got themselves a good football coach this Wednesday and a high draft pick to use on a quarterback.
Things are looking up in Cleveland!
