I thought Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford was on his way of the City of Brotherly Love. Former head coach Chip Kelly, who had full control of personnel last year, brought him in because of his experience in the Spread offense. But it didn’t work out quite the way Kelly envisioned and the Eagles missed the playoffs.

So in comes a new head coach and new head coaches usually like to start over and find their guy in the draft. But in his opening news conference, Doug Pederson suggested that his offense would fit Bradford. And he genuinely sounded like he wanted Bradford to be a part of his plan going forward.

He said, “I think Sam’s a quality quarterback, I think he’s a top-notch quarterback. Look at what he did the last half of the season. The numbers he was able to put up—he’s a quarterback that would fit perfectly into a system I’m going to bring. And so, as we evaluate that position, those decisions will be made as we go.”

Bradford went 7-7 this season as a starter with 3,725 passing yards, 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Over his aforementioned final eight games, Bradford was 202-304 for 2,164 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions. In his last game, he went out with a bang, going 30-of-38 for 320 yards and two touchdowns against the New York Giants.

His former boss and mentor, Andy Reid, was able to fix quarterback Alex Smith and turn him into a star. So Pederson looks like he’s going to try his hand at quarterback saving with Bradford in 2016. Bradford certainly didn’t do anything to price him out of Philadelphia so something should get done.

Let the Pederson era begin!
