Von Miller takes home Super Bowl MVP award
Coming into Super Bowl 50, all the focus was on the Carolina Panthers defense and quarterback Cam Newton. Then the remaining attention went to Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning. The Broncos defense was No. 1 in the NFL this year and there still wasn’t much said about them coming in.
So that Broncos defense dominated, carrying the team to a 24-10 victory over the Panthers. And among the defense, outside linebacker Von Miller shined brightest with Super Bowl MVP honors. Miller dominated Super Bowl 50 with six tackles, 2.5 sacks and a passed defensed covering receiver Jerricho Cotchery.
And of the two fumbles he forced on Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, one of them sealed the victory. Miller is an unrestricted free agent this offseason and he already said that the wants to be the highest paid defensive player in the NFL. Ending his 2015 season by winning the Super Bowl MVP is a good case for such status.
Given the Broncos’ salary cap situation, they may or may not be able to make Miller the highest paid defender in the NFL. But if they have problems re-signing him, please believe Miller will get the franchise tag slapped on him. There’s absolutely no way Miller makes it out of Denver without retiring and that won’t happen soon.
So in a week or so, negotiations will begin to see if the Broncos will have to use that franchise tag on him. But for now, it’s time for Miller to enjoy his Super Bowl win and Super Bowl MVP award.
