Peyton Manning has some thinking to do
It was all jokes when Magic Johnson was on the Tonight Show with Dever Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.
Or was it?
Johnson said on the show, “I tried to talk somebody out of retirement and come to the Rams,” Johnson said, pointing at Manning. “I said, ‘Man, if you play again, come to the Rams.’ I was working on him backstage. I would even chip in some money. Look, look, look. He’s turning a few colors.”
The Los Angeles Lakers legend, now part owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, loves him some L.A. So his pitch to Manning about joining the Los Angeles Rams had to be as serious as a heart attack. After the Super Bowl on NFL Network, Manning’s father, Archie Manning said, “He’s done in Denver.
So on Wednesday, Johnson went back to his days as a Laker and put the full-court press on Manning. Before the Super Bowl, it had already come out that the Rams were interested in Manning. So Johnson, a lover of the city of L.A. and L.A. sports, did what the first person to buy season tickets for the Rams’ 2016 season should do.
Manning did blush, saying things like “I’m getting embarrassed” and “Keep the camera on Magic!” But the Rams actually give him a chance to be the first quarterback in NFL history to win back-to-back Super Bowls with two different teams. The Rams have a great defense like the Broncos and a better running game with young stud Todd Gurley.
And 2013 No. 8 overall Tavon Austin has never had a quarterback like Manning throwing him the ball. Don’t get this past season twisted, the only reason what Manning didn’t have a good year in 2015 is because of that injury to his foot. The opportunity to make history and his natural fit in Hollywood is a lot for Manning to think about.
