Kevin Johnson healing, looking forward to second year
It looks like the Houston Texans did pretty well for themselves in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Cornerback Kevin Johnson appears to be on his way to living up to the athleticism he showed at the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine. In almost 900 snaps his rookie season, Johnson had a pick, nine passes defensed and 47 tackles.
But many don’t know that Johnson had to play through wrist and foot injuries throughout the season. He underwent surgeries to repair a broken wrist and foot issues this offseason and is now on the mend. The hope and plan for Johnson is to do even more next season with his injuries behind him.
He told the Houston Chronicle, “No doubt, I’m feeling great. I’m working with the Texans staff and I’m getting back healthy. I’m getting back faster than I thought I was. So, I’m excited about getting ready for next season. No question, I want to come back and have a big year next year.
“I want to do everything better. My whole goal and mindset is doing everything I can to be a better player, physically and mentally, and just coming in and first and foremost getting healthy and handle my business.”
If Johnson plays the way he did in the starting lineup down the stretch, the Texans defense will be a force. Kareem Jackson will be on the other side of him with Johnathan Joseph coming in on passing downs. And of course, you have this guy named J.J. Watt wreaking havoc on the defensive line.
If 2014 1st-round pick Jadeveon Clowney comes around as an edge-rusher, their defense could be like the Denver Broncos defense.
