Indiana’s Jordan Howard 2016 Scouting Report
Jordan Howard is big and powerful running back prospect. He does a good job of grinding out the tough yardage. This past year he was able to help Indiana move the chains and work off the play action. His hard-nosed style of running will be a fit for several teams in the NFL.
He’d look great in a Dallas Cowboys uniform.
Howard is able to be so effective between the tackles because of his quick-twitch ability. He gets up to full speed in a hurry and presses the line.
For his size, Howard has the knack for making himself thin and squeezing through small running lanes. His commitment to keeping his pads down helps him run with balance and make solid cuts. He doesn’t have elite lateral quickness, but enough to make one strong cut.
The concern surrounding Howard’s game is that he doesn’t show that “home-run” speed. He’s quick through the hole and to the second level, but doesn’t have a second gear. Howard is a move-the-chains type of runner that is built to control the clock.
There are some situations where Howard’s north-south running style hinders his big-play ability. He’s too quick to lower his head into the pile rather than looking for an open lane. Improving his vision and feel for the develop blocks will help his overall success.
He also needs a lot of work in pass protection where he struggles to anchor after contact. Howard must show that he can gain balance, sit in his stance and use his hands to keep the rusher off the quarterback.
